As a representative from Ocean Wise, I volunteered at the 7th Global Environment Facility (GEF). Aside from assisting the information desk in responding to inquiries and registration and managing the hubs lounge, I attended the intergenerational fireside chat to learn about what inspired these individuals to fight for the environment. In addition, I participated in side events where various country representatives discussed environmental policies that were implemented in their home countries to learn from each other. I feel grateful towards Ocean Wise for broadening my view through connecting with government leaders and exchanging ideas with like-minded youths.
With 8 million tons of plastic entering the oceans, the plastic pollution crisis escalates with each yogurt purchase. My blue ocean idea, Fresh Yogurt, is determined to ameliorate this issue by offering a healthy product that promotes the local economy while reduces the amount of plastic being created. By sourcing from local farmers, the Fraser Fresh Yogurt mitigates fuel costs and reduces greenhouse gas emmisions by curtailing the time for transportation.
On Feb 25th, I led a team composed of members from the Richmond Secondary School Business Club to participate in the UBC MiniEnterprize Case competition. The case competition focused on Alibaba and how it could improve its brand equity while combating growing competition from Ping Duo Duo. Utilizing the SWOT and PESTE techniques, we conducted both internal and external analyses to identify advantages and weaknesses of Alibaba's business model. We futher proposed methods that Alibaba could take to expand its business both horizontally and vertically. Although my team did not place in the competition, I learnt from the winning groups and their presentation. One of my weaknesses that I identify during this competition is my lack of tone changes in my speech. In preparation for future case competitions and presentations, I will practice adding fluctuations to my tone by listening to famous speeches, such as "I Have a Dream" and imitating the speaker's elocution.
