Personal Statement

Through participating various summer programs, such as YouthtoSea and YYGS, I have learnt about the difficiency in our business models in countering enviornmental issues that afect ecologies and wildlife. During my studies as a biology and business economic double-major student at UCLA, I strive to gain deeper insights into these business-related environmental issues, answering questions: why do businesses resist implementing "greener" solutions? Is the profit margin the main concern? How can we encourage businesses to adopt strategies that both earn a profit and contribute to battling climate change? With participation in extracurricular activities (clubs) and inmmersion in academics, I hope to renovate business models to include the environment as a consideration.

Summer Opportunities

Yale Young Global Scholars

In December 2022, I was accepted into the Solving Global Challenges Session I in the Yale Young Global Scholars Summer Program. Yale has provided me with the opportunity to participate in college-level lectures and interact with Yale's experienced professors during seminars. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to study on Yale's campus, interact with Yale's expert professors, and collaborate with other future leaders who share the same values as me. I will contribute to Yale's inclusive and studious learning atmosphere by being open minded toward new ideas and engaging in group discussions. By the end of the program, I wish to gain a deeper insight on environmental problems and learn about potential solutions to climate change.

The University of Pennsylvania Pre-College Summer Program

In January 2023, I was accepted into the Pre-College Summer Program under the University of Pennsylvania. Because I intend on studying business for my future academic career, I am enrolled in Introduction to Micro Economics and Introduction to Experimental Psychology. While the microeconomic course allows me to understand the consumer demand and the purchaser decision making process, the psychology course permits me to create a workspace that supports the wellbeing of my colleagues. Combining these essential microeconomic and psychological elements, I can expand my horizon to identify the role of my recycle, reuse, and repurpose business model from the consumer's perspective while motivating my colleagues. By the end of the program, I hope to improve my research, communication, and presentation skills in Penn’s supportive and industrious learning environment. Learning from Penn’s experienced professors, I can stimulate creative action that not only attenuates global issues but also inspires others to inaugurate change.
